Computer won't recognise USB printer?

  • I have an hp printer that connects to the computer with a USB cable but the computer can't recognise it, and looking on the control panel it comes under 'unspecified' what can i do?

You need to install the driver for your printer, my friend. Unplug the USB cable and place the CD that came with your printer into your CD/DVD drive. The installation programme should run automatically. If you can't put your hands on the driver CD, you can download it from the HP (USA) website. (You'll need to indicate which specific printer it is that you have, and then select which Operating System your computer is using. This will ensure that you get the correct driver. Do be aware, however, that there may also be updates and other software that you'll need to download to make sure you get full functionality of your printer.)
