Cancel Comcast loophole?

• Currently we have Comcast triple play (phone internet and cable), I live in Oregon and i know that Comcast sends out most of its cable TV signals in digital format, but a few channels are still analog (i can receive them without a special box). so if i decide to cancel the phone and TV with comcast, only keeping the internet, i plan on using something like "magic jack" for phone service by using the internet. anyway, on with my question, in order to get service from Comcast, my modem has to connect to the coax line from Comcast, if i only have internet, will i get a new modem from them? or will they just update the firmware on my existing one? and if i still have the coax coming in, will i be able to receive the analog signals on my TV? even though im not paying for it.

  If you currently have a combined modem that is offering you access to phone service and/or TV, then you may get a new modem. This is a good thing, especially if you're being charged a monthly rental fee, as I believe the rental fee for just a cable modem, vs. digital phone/tv/modem will be a bit less. As far as still getting a TV signal, it's unlikely. The signals coming in now are digital, and much easier for Comcast to turn on and off depending on what you order. If you still want TV, you can ask Comcast if they have a retention or promotion. I'm currently getting basic cable + broadband internet for LESS than I would pay if I just had broadband, under a promotion for the next 6 months at least. It's always good to call requesting to downgrade or cancel and see what they'll offer you.
