How can I use my PC with a wireless printer?

How can I use a shared printer on another PC without installing its driver?

  • Hi, I want to send printing commands to another computer in my local network which has a printer directly connected to it. I want to do that without sending my files and reprinting it from that PC. I hope my question is clear. Thanks

  • Answer:

You cannot, sorry. You will need to install the drivers for the printer.

A guide of how to share a printer and connect to a shared printer can be found here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Share-a-printer This guide was written by Microsoft for Windows Vista, but it will be the same on Windows 7. The steps are very similar for Windows XP. When you share the printer, Windows will automatically install the driver if it can find it. Otherwise, you have to install the driver manually, as it is the only way your computer knows how to communicate with that particular printer.

You have to install the drivers so the application on your computer knows what codes to send to the printer directly... The other machine sharing the printer only provides a "pipeline" to the printer - it does not process your print jobs.

Sorry you cannot do that you have to install the driver.
