How do I set up my Printer?

How to set up a shared printer?

  • I have a laptop running XP and a desktop running Windows 7 which is also connected to the printer (Brother HL-5140) I am trying to share. When I try and get the printer working on the XP computer by adding a new printer it says: " The server for the 'Brother HL-5410' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed..." So when I look at printing properties > sharing > additional drivers: Processor Type Installed Itanium Type 3 - User Mode No x64 Type 3 - User Mode Yes x86 Type 3 - User Mode No So when I downloaded the most recent driver from Brother and provided a path it says " The folder you have specified doesn't contain driver software for your device. Select a folder that contains your driver software and try again." I really need help! P.S. Sorry if this is confusing to read.

  • Answer:

    1. Unless you want to plug/unplug the printer, the two computers must be networked. Make sure that files can be shared. 2. Un-install the printer from both computers. 3. Physically connect printer to DT. Install printer.Make sure you specify shared printer. 4 Install printer on XP. Make sure you install it as a network printer.
