Make a standard printer wireless?

How to make a usb printer wireless?

  • I have an older Brother printer, model HL-21, that I would like to be able to make wireless. Is there something that I can plug the USB cord of the printer into to allow my laptop to wirelessly connect to it? It has to be wireless, not Bluetooth and it would be even better if I do not have to plug anything into my computer for it to work, however a small dongle would be fine. The distance that it has to cover is about three feet and there is a power source nearby. The router is not in the room, so I would not be able to connect either the printer or this device to the router. Any examples would be greatly appreciated. It would be great if it was less than twenty dollars, the cheaper the better (<10 is ideal). I've searched online and I think it may be called a wireless printer server or a wireless usb hub, but I can't tell if any of the products require connection to a router and many are close to $100. Thanks for the help!

  • Answer:

Your after a wireless print server, something like this assuming you don't want to connect the printer to a router: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Networking-and-Wireless/Routers/Wireless-N/SYDPR1040 Otherwise connecting your printer to your router via ethernet would require something like: http://www.netgear.com.au/au/Product/Print-Servers/Wired-Print-Servers/PS121
