Make a standard printer wireless?

How can I make my verizon dsl and wired printer all wireless?

  • I have a Acer aspire 4730z laptop running windows vista, and an old dell dimension desk top running windows Xp. I have a verizon dsl internet which currently connects to each computer by a ether cable. I have a lexmark X5650 all in one printer. neither of the computers or printer are wireless ready. is there a devise that i can purchase that I can plug the printer and dsl into to make all wireless to my computers or do i need a seperate devise for each - printer/dsl. Any suggestions on brands and models would be great as I am no good with computer stuff.

Based on the printer, you will need to have the printer directly connected to one of your computers. Your model printer will not work properly if connected directly to a router. There are many iterations of how you can make this all work, but here is my preferred solution: 1. Connect your DSL to a wireless router. Follow this link for an example that would work for you: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/routers/Linksys-WRT54GL-Wireless-G-Router-Front-Page_stcVVproductId53934619VVcatId552009VVviewprod.htm 2. Connect the wireless router to your desktop via ethernet cable. 3. Connect your printer to your desktop via USB cable. 4. On your desktop, enable printer sharing. If your laptop does not have a wireless card, you will need to buy one. Here is a USB dongle that will work for you: http://homestore.cisco.com/en-us/Adapters/Valet-Valet-ConnectorAM10-refurbished_stcVVproductId129590444VVcatId543809VVviewprod.htm 6. Once you have connected your laptop to the wireless network, you will need to setup the printer on the laptop.
