What's the difference between laser jet printer and ink jet printer?

Laser and Ink Jet Printer question Please.?

  • What exactly is the difference between an ink jet printer and a laser printer? I have a brother MFC and it seems to have its problems. My roommate said that I should get a laser printer. What is the best in your opinions versus the other? Also, what about a HP Deskjet F2110 All in one printer, Scanner, and copier? They have them on sale at Walmart for $34. What do you think of that one. I would like one that will print off photos quickly. I am not a computer or printer wizard. Thank you all in advance, for your kind answers and advice.

    color laser is much more expensive than ink jet, like 250 - 300 bucks. The cartridges are more, but you get a lot more prints, so the actual cost per print is cheaper. Lasers use the powder toner, like a copy machine, that is melted onto the paper permanently. A lot of ink jets are water based and will run if they get wet. A site called Epinions.com posts ratings from ordinary people for all different kinds of stuff. You just have to put in the name and model, and other people can tell you about your product. Unfortunately, models for electronics change so quickly, your model might not have any reviews contributed yet. Amazon.com has user reviews also

Laser printers are expensive when it comes to changing of cartridges & its image drum whereas it is less expensive in Inkjet printer's.If u want to get a black & white print & fast too then i recommend a laser printer. A All in one printer uses the cartridges installed in it for printing,for faxing & for coping too so there is a wastage of cartridges ink's for which there is no use in most of the prints so i don't recommend the same , ya it is right that u get all the facilities in one machine but it is a costiler affair.

The Laser printer is more expensive and expensive to refill (can use as many as six refill cartridges), but give you very professional copies, also they should be used in a well ventilated area. Ink jet printer are cheaper and can give a pretty good print, unless you are in a business or a professional, I'd stay with one of the better ink jet printers

An ink jet printer sprays little droplets of ink onto paper. Inkjets are the most common home printers because the printers themselves are cheap and can print good quality color images. Ink for inkjets is expensive. Laser printers electrically charge the paper which makes toner stick to it. Laser printers provide much better black and white document quality, but don't print photos as well. Color laser printers are very expensive. You can print 2000-3000 black and white pages with a single toner cartridge, at a cost of only two or three inkjet cartridges (which might only last a few hundred pages each). If you purchase a cheap inkjet printer, you will most definitely have to purchase expensive ink cartridges. That is how they make money--just like "give away the razor and sell the blades". Read some of the reviews by PC Magazine or CNET and pick one in your price range. And don't shop at WalMart! A note on inkjet photos from personal experience: If inkjet photos get wet, the color will run. Also they fade rapidly (in as little as a few weeks) if exposed to the sun.
