Is it possible to make an inkjet all in one printer into a wireless printer?
-
I have a Lexmark 1150 all in one printer. I'd like to know if it is all possible to make this printer into a wireless printer that I can use from any point in my house. Is it possible folks?

Answer:
Yes, and... If you get an ethernet server for your printer, it will be available on your network. (look for a USB printer server). But you would not MOVE the printer, so why wireless? You see, making that wireless also, will only make it less reliable. It would sort-a suck.

you will need to set up a wireless network, then set up the printer on any networked computer, then right click it and push shareing and enable it , then set it up on each comp as a network printer and browse for it, install and you are done

totally possible. if you already have a wireless network it's very easy. you need to buy a print server. it's just a little doohickey with a usb port that hooks into your router via ethernet. you can buy them at compusa or fry's for under $50. set up is fairly easy.

Actualy there are some "wireless print server" that you can buy and connect to your printer. IN this case you don't need to have a computer to connect the printer and share it. This print server has it's own ip address, and any wireless pc and connect to it, and print.

First throw away your Lexmark. I imagine you are paying gobs for ink, and according to PC Magazine's latest Reader's Choice review for printers, Lexmark ranked last in all areas, including reliability. I would recommend the new HP C6180. It has built in wireless networking. The C6180 will be out in stores later this month. Another option is the HP C5180 which is already in stores. It has wired networking, so for wireless beneifts, all you need to do is plug it into the ethernet port of a wireless router. Besides, HP (along with Canon) was awarded the Reader's Choice in reliability. Ink for the C5180 is very inexpensive. It takes a 6 cartridge system, but all 6 cartridges can be purchased in a value pack in almost all retailers for $36.
