What is a good printer to use with my mac laptop?

Having some Mac/multipurpose printer connection problems. Can anyone help?

I have a mac laptop and a HP psc 1510 All-in-one printer connected via Airport. I have no problems printing, never downloaded a driver, automatically set up. Problem is that I want to scan. I used to use the scan feature w/ my now defunct windows based pc and had to use a hp program in order to scan. So I figure I needed to have the driver for the printer on my mac. I downloaded the driver via HP's website and installed it, however it couldn't locate my printer via the airport. It did a search through USB devices then ip/tsp connections and still never found it. Anyone know if there is any other way for me to scan some documents?
Answer:

You'll have to connect with USB. The Airport printer sharing is a system feature, but it only works for printing. Scanning requires the USB connection.
