Yes, you can do it, but it's not quite as simple as 'Zylcho' made out! Saying that, it's not too difficult either. On your desktop pc, in Control Panel, head to Printers and Faxes and do a single right-click over the printer in question. Head to the 'Sharing' Tab & select 'Share this printer' (Or whatever the exact terminology is on XP, not using it right now). Give it a 'name' & click Apply. On your laptop, you want to search for a 'Network Printer' and search for it. It should show as Machine Name/Printer Name. You may need to configure Firewall settings depending on your security setup, but that's another story! Look at your desktop's firewall settings IF the printer doesn't show on your laptop. Hope that makes sense and helps some. EDIT: Sorry, when you right-click on the printer, you will need to select 'Properties', then the Sharing Tab. (Missed out the properties bit). Sorry.

Yes it is all possible, just have to have the printer software installed on all machine. Just visit the printer makes website and download the latest driver/software and install.

Two ways: 1) leave the PC switched on all the time and use it as a printer server. You can send your documents from your laptop via the wireless router to the PC and it will 'forward' it to the printer. 2) Invest in a Netgear PS121 Printer server. This is a small box about the size of a cigarette packet. It has an ethernet input (connect to a spare port on the router) and a USB output (connect to the printer). They cost about £50 and come with the necessary software and instructions. If you use one of these you can set up the printer on both computers to be via an URL (internet address). The router will recognise the URL as that of the PS121 and send your document on its way. You will not need to leave the PC running all the time. They also now sell a WPGS606 which can handle more than one printer. Novatech also sell print servers that are similar to the Netgear one.
