Why isn't my printer printing in color?

Color Printer not Printing Color?

  • I have a canon printer. I was printing something when I realized I was low on magenta ink so I replaced the magenta ink cartridge but none of the others. Prior to this My printer had printed in color perfectly fine. Afterward, when I tried to print something, it only printed the black portions. It was not printing in gray scale, but only printing the black portions of the document I was trying to print. Afterwards, I bought a brand new printer with brand new ink, and we are having the same problem. I figure the problem must have something to do with the settings on the computer, not the printer. Does anybody know of a setting that could make the printer only print BLACK (NOT gray scale, gray doesn't print either)?

  • Answer:

I haven't personally used a Cannon printer. But have experience with printers for the last 10 years. Grayscale uses the color catridges to make up the appropriate color because Gray is a combination of colors, not just black. - RGB, CMYK etc Colors I noticed that certain printers (actually the OS drivers) adjusts the printing mode depending on the available ink. Once a color dried off, the system automatically changed it to black-and-white. It should normally reset as soon as you fix a new catridge, but if you don't use their standard protocols (instructions) may be they wouldn't detect. Check out the printer settings through your printer software and see if some thing has changed. Also when going to print a document, go to Properties / Advanced Printing Options and check if you have selected the appropriate Color Mode. This can be a bit of a headache. Some times it may be set to some thing like "Use only black catridge" in a place difficult to find. These are the two problems that I can think of that can happen. Wish you good luck.

When you open the printer properties, look for the COLOR tab and ensure it is not set to BLACK only. Although I do not believe that was the original problem you explained. The older printer sounds like the Magenta (or other cartridge) was not sitting correctly, or the protective tape was still intact.

If there's a black/color button on the printer press the color button if not! maybe you put the ink in wrong?! Read the manuals you got when you open the box or whatever if this doesn't help research on Google!
