Why ism't the Epson printer working?

I need help with my Epson 7600 large format printer, the magenta colour isn't working?!?

  • I've been given a Epson Pro 7600 large format printer - which hasn't been used in over 3 years and the printer has only ever print about 45 mtrs of mainly black acetate. I've brought new cartridge for the machine, done the usually cleans and one power clean - which has cleared all the heads prefectly except one - the magenta. I've had a look at the lines and all the lines which i can see that run along the bottom of the printer and over the top show good ink flow, no air bubbles or anything. But the magenta is show a big air bubble (i assume it's an air bubble as it is totally free of any drop of ink, and is very clear) about 4cm long right at the begining of the line - the bit that goes into the 'damper'/'carriage' - I don't really know what this is called. Can anyone help with info about how i can sort this? I don't really want to pay ££££ to call out a technician (plus i don't think there are any in my area) - especially if someone knows how to clear this. I've tried cleaning and cleaning and cleaning the heads in the hope is blows it through. Has anyone come across this or knows how i can sort it? My husband is quite good at dismantling etc if need be.

The comment about it being dried up is helpful you just don't understand it which is not the same. Your print head is dried up or blocked if you prefer and so preventing the ink from flowing through it out the other end on to the paper or other! Wide format printers are no different to any other format print regarding ink dry ups they are just bigger so no need for an expert in larger ones! Your printer has a print head that holds each of the inks. It is that thing (none technical to suit you understanding) that hold the ink cartridges that is blocked and you can change the ink as many time as you like it will make no difference - the cartridges are not the problem. Put simply the printer is knackered from standing without use for years. You need either a new one or a new print head for the one you have. This is assuming you cannot remove the print head and manually unblock it which I have done with my make many times when cleaning cycles do not solve the problem and do it without drawning the circutry! Multi cleaning cycles can in fact block the head more than if you leave it as the ink is dried up on the head so every time you clean it it just shoots more ink through the nozzle sitting the new ink on top of the already dried up ink to then dry up itself. I hope that is expert enough and if not then a technician call out is what you need who will no doubt only tell you the same. Edit A site that has a new printhead http://www.porthale.co.uk/products.asp?product=X74X1478 2nd edit The thumbs down are BSGhost's doing. He does it in every question he answers as he can't stand anyone else being right. Still spaming I see BS!

Not having been used for over 3 years, the nozzles get clogged. You need to use Windex [the window cleaner], a syringe and a short piece of fishtank tubing about 5". No need to dismantle at this time. Remove the cartridges, Place one end of the tubing on the syringe and the other on the nozzle and slowly push down. Have lots of paper towels on hand. For more detailed info on the above, do a search on www.youtube.com. Cleaning kits are also sold at: http://www.inkproducts.com/ink-store/ Check their CISS to save tons of money.
