How to install HP printer on Vista?

How do you install an HP printer onto Vista?

  • I just got an HP Deskjet F4480 All-in-One Printer/Scanner, but the darn thing won't properly install. For some reason, every time I try to install, a window labeled, "Found New Hardware - HPDeskjet4400 series" opens up and says, "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device." Everything else worked out fine, but this one error is keeping it from installing. I have Vista too. Any tips on what to do? Links to pages would be appreciated.

    1.)Click the found new hardware wizard 2.)select advance options 3.)select the location of the drivers for Vista (located at the CD) 4.) click next and CONTINUE INSTALLATION, ignore the driver signing warning 5.)if it still does not work, maybe your printer's cd does not have a driver for Vista, so just proceed to download the driver for vista from the manufacturers site and proceed with the same steps as mentioned above. Hopefully, this will solve your issue.. And I do recommend you to upgrade to win 7, windows vista sucks ;) just my 2 cents

What you need to do is uninstall all the software and un-plug the USB cable from the unit. Power it on and begin a fresh install. Let the program tell you when to reconnect the USB cable. Let it finish, reboot and windows will find the new software. Go in control panel and click on Scanners and cameras and you will see the HP icon there. Click it to activate the scanner. or go in START menu and click on HP Solution center in the HP folder The HP4480 works on Vista perfectly.

Here, I found this in one forum "Turns out, although the instructions state SPECIFICALLY not to plug in the USB cable until prompted, do it anyway first. My computer recognized the printer and installed it with no issues whatsoever. Problem solved."
