Computer will not communicate with the printer?

  • I have a Dell computer with XP and a HP F340 all in one printer. I downloaded the disk and it shows up on the my computer tab. It is also check marked as being the default computer, it is also the only one that I have hooked up. The computer will print a page if I put a page on the glass. However, when I go to a word document and I go to print, it just goes to 'queue' and sits there with all the others that follow. It says that no drivers are installed. The comp and the printer are not communicating. It will not work with the USB cable I used previously and it will not work with the new one I bought either. So I feel it is the computer. This is very irritating. Does anyone have any ideas ? Also,,,I bought an Epson printer and it had the same problem and I returned it. So it is back to the computer as the problem.

    Try installing the driver form a specific location. Locate the driver on the disk and do it that way.

This may sound silly but, are you using a USB hub? Don't. If it is connected directly to a USB port, try a different port. Yes they are all supposed to be the same but experience has shown that sometimes just moving it to a different port is all that is needed.

Do this Start > Control Panel > Hardware or Hardware and Sound (Same thing) > Printers > Click on HP F340 > Set as default. That should do it.

Have you verified that the USB port is working? Have you used other devices like mice or flash drives in that port? When you plug the USB cable into the printer in (powered on), does the computer show that a USB device has been plugged in? Whether you have the right driver or not, the PC should still recognize the device.

same problem i had, when printing make sure your printing to copy 1 or copy 2 or whatever format your printer is
