HP P1006 printer not working?

  • I have had an HP Laserjet P1006 printer for about three years now. It worked flawlessly with my Mac but my Mac is currently getting fixed so I tried connecting it to my Windows desktop. It worked for about a week with no issues. Initially the driver did not install correctly, so I downloaded the most recent version from the HP website and it was fine. After about a week however the printer simply become unresponsive. The computer recognizes that the printer is plugged in, the drivers are installed, but things simply seem to get stuck in the queue. I have tried different programs, different documents, and they all do the same. Most recently I tried printing, and while the printer did not seem to react, both lights on the side of the printer started flashing, then only the attention light, and then the steady green light turned on again. I have not been able to print now and have tried several things recommended in forums and the HP help pages. I have tried reinstalling the driver software, reinstalling the full software package from HP, rebooting the spooler, different USB ports, doing a power reset, sending jobs directly to the printer (which just resulted in the program sending the print job becoming unresponsive), and running an engine test (which did print). It seems the printer itself works but it seems something is not working in the communication with the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    If your HP printer is connected to a network, you need to check that the network connections and network settings are proper. The network indicator lamp on your printer, which is next to the network socket, normally be blinking green. Also, ensure that you have given proper permissions to each computer connected to HP printer in the network. You need to check that your printer queue is not stuck. If yes, then it may cause printer problems. If you are using Windows operating system, just go to the ‘Start’ menu and then click on ‘Control Panel’. Click on ‘Printer and faxes’ icon in the Control Panel. You need to double click on the printer in question and try to remove all documents from the printer queue before trying to print again.

Select Envelope as the paper type. 5. From the Size drop-down list, select the applicable size. To create a custom size envelope, use the following steps: 1. On the Paper/Quality tab, click Custom . 2. Click in the Name text box, and then enter a name for the custom envelope size. 3. Click in the Width text box, and then enter the width. NOTE: Make certain the size is in inches. Click the Use Millimeters/Use Inches button to toggle between using millimeters and inches to define the custom paper size. 4. Click in the Height text box, and then enter the height. 5. Click Save . 6. Click Apply to save the settings. 7. Click OK to print the envelopes. NOTE: An error message might display asking to load an envelope into the manual feed tray. This might occur even if the envelopes are loaded. Make sure the envelopes are loaded, and then click Continue . The product will continue printing from whichever input tray contains the envelopes.
