How do I print directly to my Brother MFC 9440CN printer?

I am trying to print word documents off of my USB drive, but it comes up with a message that says its in an unusable format. someone please help.

If you're trying to open the Word documents on the USB drive in your version of Word, then most likely it's in a newer Word format than what yours can handle without an add-in. What you'll need to do is download and install the latest compatibility pack from Microsoft. Go to this link to download and install the latest pack: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3 But, if you're trying to print directly from the USB through the printer's USB direct interface, then you're out of luck. The easily accessible USB Direct Interface is only used to conveniently print PDF or JPEG files from or scan PDF or JPEG files to a USB flash memory drive.
