What and how Do wireless Printer Work?

How does a Wireless Printer work?

  • Hello, I'm looking to get a all in one printer with fax. Q: I have a laptop, can the printer be set up to a laptop? Will I need special wires or anything? Q: I don't have a land line at home, I only use my cell. Can I make the fax work via my cell phone? Q: wireless printers...exactly what is wireless? plz explain. Q: I have wireless internet at home, can I fax wirelessly that way? Thank you so much everyone for your help.

  • Answer:

    1. Yes, every machine on the network will be able to utilize it once the software is installed. May not have complete functionality (scanning, remote faxing, etc) on OS X or Linux. 2. Possibly. I can send faxes with my phone, many cannot. It very difficult for a beginner to setup. VoIP phones will not send faxes in most cases. 3. Wireless == no physical wires except for power. Requires a wireless router. 4. Not via the network. It has to have a phone connection. In regards to your cell phone idea, the fax cannot be directly hooked up to it. It has to be faxed from your computer.

1) yes for a laptop no wires 2)you need a modem with a router, so you cant print wireless- modems need phone line and router connects a modem- you cant print from phone because you need to setup wireless on a pc or latptop 3)wireless it depends if your like over 50 feet you need wireless n printer which is far away and only at like home you can print, wireless printers should probably need a disk to install or it would say network ready on the description of the printer your looking at 4)you need an all in one wireless printer or a network all in one printer that connects to a router so you can fax wireless.

Hi Mbwesall, You are in luck. I used to have this exact same configuration. Well except I had a home phone line. Now I travel the world pretty much full-time so I have a little different configuration. You can setup your wireless printer to your laptop but you will want to connect the printer with a cable first to get all of the software setup correctly. Took me 3 days to figure that one out...so you're welcome. :) Next, get an online fax number to receive and send your faxes. It's like $8 per month and you can then send without a phone line as well. I have been using RingCentral and no complaints so far. Take a look at the site below where all of the major companies are reviewed. Wireless printer means it will plug into your router and act as an independent device. The the various PC's on your network will be able to use it without having to plug directly into it. Using your wireless internet at home you will be able to fax directly from your computer. Once you have installed the software you’ll see a RingCentral fax icon on your Windows applications—such as Microsoft Outlook®, Word, etc. When you click the fax button, your document will be converted to a fax and sent to any fax machine with a US or international number.
