Which photo printer is better to buy?

Shall I buy a photo printer or continue going to the photo lab?

  • It seems that printing cost for a 4"x6" photo using a Kodak printer is approx $0.32 and Walmart charges approx $0.33 each. Is the quality of a Kodak photo printer as good as a photo lab?

  • Answer:

The photolab will probably produce better results - if the photos don't turn out too good then they'll reprint them. The cost of ink for home printing gets expensive too - "the ink, ounce for ounce, is four times the cost of Krug Clos du Mesnil Champagne, which sells for around $425 a bottle. Ink is about the same price as Joy perfume, considered to be one of the more pricey fragrances, at $158 for a 2.5-ounce bottle." - http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/08/technology/08photo.ready.html Getting the colors right on a home printer can be a problem too - see the debate at http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/965224 Modern home/office photo printers are great but you can get just a good value, with less hassle, going to a photo lab.
