How does the scan work on my printer?

Why does my HP printer work great except for when it needs to SCAN?!?

  • I have an HP that features: copies/prints/scan/wireless/web. Well SOMETIMES it will scan just fine, seldomly. I have scanned one of 3 documents. Every time I hit scan ... the screen says "scan error try to scan from your computer or see documentation for troubleshoot". I dont have documentation anymore and the first part doesnt even make sense to me. I did printer reports and wireless reports and its all OK or YES. It will copy and print EVERY time. But when it comes to scanning .... :/ Ideas fast please! Thanx!!

  • Answer:

What are you scanning to? A computer? A USB? An external hard drive? It could be that there's a limit imposed on the file size and if you're trying to scan too many pages, or something that is too high-resolution, it's not getting carried over. EDIT: I would delete the printer from the print queue (control panel > printers & faxes) then re-add it. If this doesn't work, try scanning with preview or imagecapture. I personally do not rate HP printers, least of all the photosmart series.

Try to scan via USB cable directly connected to your laptop. My MFP HP does the same. It prints ok through LAN and wireless, but doesn't scan. It only scans when directly connected to laptop/PC
