My printer won't read my laptop anymore?

Laptop will not read printer?

  • I'm trying to install a printer onto my co-woker's laptop here at work, but for some reason the laptop will not read the printer. I have already tried installing the setup, but it always tells me that the printer has to be plugged in, but it is plugged in because every time I do plug it in, on the bottom right, a little bubble will appear saying, "New Device Found: HP Laserjet 2420" which is exactly the printer I am wanting to install. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

    Sounds like OS installed a driver it "thought" would be compatible but is not. You need to uninstall the driver and run setup from the printer's CD. If setup requires that printer should be connected (that is very very unusual - but you are saying it does), connect printer but do not let OS determine the driver. Then complete the setup. The other answers have good advice in them as well as far as checking device manager and getting the latest driver(s) from HP. HTH

you can go to HP support for the driver ! and also ,open up the printers port and make sure the printer has a check mark for that printer , and you can look in the devices and make sure there isn't any yellow ? marks there , if the is! click on it and uninstall it and than plug your ,and is it USB for that printer in and shut the computer off with it plug in and restart the computer it might find that printer ,hope that helps

You do not have the appropriate drivers setup for the laptop, or it is just not meant to work for the laptop.
