HP Deskjet D4160 problems?

HP deskjet d4160, i have tried everything i see on this site regarding this printer, nothing works.?

  • i got this printer, but my cd drive isnt working, so i went to hp.com and downloaded the drivers for this model printer for vista ( i have vista), i installed the drivers and it states, that my specific model is ready for use, so i plug it in and get a message stating that the usb device has not be recognized, so i try with another usb cable and the same message pops up, i tried printing test pages, but the que stops, i cancel them but they remain under the status deleting, i tried to fix this by rebooting the computer with the ques open, it worked but it still wont print. Also, for some strange reason, my printer folder only has hp deskjet d4160 listed there. isnt something else sopposed to be there?

    question #1do you still have the installation cd. #2 unplug all the connections from printer to computer. #3 put in setup cd #4 follow directions carefully cd will tell- you when to hook up the connections from printer to pc. #5 do not skip any directions. if you don't have the cd try this #1start menu #2 printers&faxes #3in printers& faxes click on add printer follow directions,dont skip anything. hope this helps.if you are out of ink printer wont print either.

Funny as it may not seem. Windows Vista will not recognize either one of my new printers. I can make one of them work, using the print drivers from a different printer but I lose some of the functions and features. Blame it on HP for not keeping up with Microsoft Technology.
