Printer and photo paper advice?

What is the best photo paper to use for a Canon photo printer?

  • I have a Canon Pixma MX860 and would like to start printing some photos. I have been told that I should use Canon photo paper, but they have several brands/options. There is Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, Paper Pro Platinum, and Photo Paper Pro II. I want the best paper available, but don't want to spend more if I don't have to. Is there a big difference with these papers? If so, which is the best? Any help would be great.

  • Answer:

I use Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II with my Canon printer and it is really good. I use 180gm everyday glossy paper for routine prints but when I want them to look really glossy I use the Canon paper. I compared two identical pictures. One printed at a store and the other on the Canon paper. The Canon paper was a better quality picture than the store printed one. Here are some reviews done by customers who bought it. They all gave positive feed back on it. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6756664/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%2C+PCs+and+phones%7C14418968/c_2/3%7C15701351%7CPrinter+ink+and+paper%7C14419071/c_3/4%7Ccat_14419071%7CPrinter+paper%7C14419074.htm

Photo Paper Pro II is Professional ! best choice

That depends upon what you are using the photos for. For home use, just any old photo paper will do. If you are looking at printing photos for display, sale or distribution you will want to go higher end ot the Pro Platinum, However, most people are not going to be able to tell the difference, as well as for home use you really no not need to get into the 200+ year archival guarantee.,

It really comes down to "personal opinion" ..or...what paper YOU think gives the best results. Many of the printer Co.formulate paper that works best with THEIR machines...such as Canon, HP,Epson etc. It also depends on weather you want "hi gloss", "matte", or "linen". Often a poor picture looks better on matte or linen paper....again just a matter of personal opinion. if you can get a few sheets of those mentioned papers and try them...see which one does the best job for you...some times you can go to staples/officemax..and get a few sheets from there "opened box" (they use to demonstrate a printer) so they don't mind selling a few sheets they have taken from a whole package.
