Why will my printer not print?

Help, my HP printer will not print or scan, and I can't figure out why?

• I got my printer back from my ex over a year ago, and I haven't used it because I didn't have the usb cord for it, but I just bought one. So I tried to install the cd, but then realized that my ex gave me the wrong printer cd, I dont know how, but I went to the HP site and downloaded the basic set up for the F4480 Deskjet Series, but when I hit scan on it, it makes a bunch of sounds and does nothing, and when I try to print it says there isn't any paper, but there is. I also can't find my printer program on my computer. I extracted it from my downloads and fully installed it, but its not on my desktop or anywhere else on my computer that I can find. But when I go to attempt to print something, it reconizes that my printer is there, it just says its out of paper. I would really appreciate some help!

  Wow. OK. Try restarting both your PC and the printer (that is, turn off the printer, unplug it for about a minute and plug it back in). Check the connections. If that doesn't work, go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3742086 and select your Operative System (to check, right click (My) Computer and click Properties) and download the HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers. Install it and follow instructions in wizard. If that doesn't work, uninstall all printers (Start Menu>Control Panel>Printers, right click the printer you need and Delete). and try reinstalling it.
