Setup file and printer sharing on the windows vista computer. Set the windows xp computer to the WORKGROUP workgroup. It should be MSHOME by default. or, you can change the workgroup on the windows vista comp to MSHOME from WORKGROUP. Works either way. After doing that, go to my network places on WinXP then view computers, click on the vista comp, then double click on the printer. It should now start installing the printer, you can test if it works by printing something off notepad. Both of the computers must also be connected to the same network

Create a network (of any kind ) and enable printer sharing on network and sharing center and go onto network on XP and you will find the printer.
