Where did my printer icon on contacts go?

My printer says its offline but I know its lying!?

  • I'm a college student and my laptop is a mac book air and my printer is an HP Photosmart printer. We have a router in our dorm room and I got the printer to be connected to our router so I could print wirelessly. It worked for approximately two weeks but all of a sudden whenever I go to print then click on the printer icon its says printer is "offline". I know this isn't the case because whenever my roommate attempts to print something it works perfectly (she has a mac book pro...I'm not sure if thats even relevant). So if anyone has any idea why my computer is so effed up or why the printer is being dumb I would love to know what you're thinking. Ill take any advice, because I've pretty much tried everything I can think of and its still not working!!! Help! :( Please and Thanks!!

  • Answer:

MAC Turn printer on 1 - Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock. 2 - Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category. 3 - Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button. 4 - Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online. Now, restart your computer

Sounds like your Mac has a different printer set up as the default. Change it to the one in your room.
