  • Answer:

It is possible that you can use HP ink, but not the cartridges. There is an interesting short video here if you get the error lights flashing on your canon printer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lQFl6KgexQ I also found these instructions that may possibly work as well 1 Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord and disconnect the USB cable from the computer. 2 Press and hold the "Power" and "Resume" buttons and plug the power cord into the outlet to begin printer initialisation. 3 Release the "Power" button (while still holding down the "Resume" button) and then press and hold the "Power" button to activate test mode. 4 Release the "Power" and "Resume" buttons to activate service mode. Wait for the lights to stop flashing. 5 Press the "Resume" button to cycle through the settings until the message "Reset waste ink counter" or "Ink count" is displayed (press three or four times). If "Ink count" is displayed, press the "0" button to reset. 6 Press the "Set" or "OK" button and then turn the printer off and unplug the power cord. For some Bubble Jet printers, press the "Cartridge" button if prompted on the display to reset the ink counter. 7 Plug the power cord into the outlet, plug the USB cable into the computer and turn the printer on. this taken directly from http://www.ehow.com/how_5711770_reset-canon-ink-cartridge-chip.html

most makes of cartridges have a chip in them that tells the printer when the ink is almost exhausted, this is why printers are so cheap to get you to buy them, but then the price of cartridges are expensive (where they make their money back. You can buy compatible cartridges cheap on ebay, and you can also buy a re-chipper for a lot of makes so you can then put ink back and use the same cartridge. I have both a re-chipper and a program for my printer that re-sets the chip, one bought on ebay, and the other downloaded from a torrent site. Have a look round, it could save you a lot of money.

At times refilled ink cartridges may work, but mostly not. Most printers will not recognize refilled ink cartridges. Once the ink is exhausted, the chip expires No, you ink cartridges are not interchangeable, They are designed for specific printers and will only work for the printers they were made for
