My printer prints out pages and pages of letters and symbols?

I have an hp deskjet 6122. whenever i try to print anything, it prints out pages of letters and symbols. when i went the hp site to download a driver (i thought it was the issue?) they tell me that Windows Vista doesnt need drivers for the printer?? help please

The HP website says a full feature driver is not available yet! The one in Vista will do basic text printing only. Do you have this one installed? If yes then HP recommend you try an alternative. Open the printers control panel and select Install New Printer Scroll through the list of printers until you find yours or a near equivalent. Keep trying till you find one that works. Good luck! I`m sticking with XP. Peter.

There are only 2 things that will cause this. 1. The wrong printer driver 2. The operating system Re: 1 - Make sure that the proper printer driver is installed for that printer through 'control panel/printers'. The driver has to not only be the right one for the printer, but must also operate under the particular operating system. There are a LOT of drivers that won't operate under Vista because Vista sucks. Re: 2 - Install winxp. You've only experienced the tip of the iceberg of troubles with vista.
