How do I connect my laptop to my wi-fi printer?

How do I set up my Canon PIXMA MP495 printer to my WiFi?

  • I'm trying to connect my new Canon PIXMA MP495 printer to my laptop. And I want to do it via my wifi. But the instructions in the booklet don't really make any sense to me. All it says is "Add (connect) the machine to the network." But doesn't tell me how. I'm a bit confused. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

it is telling you that you need to connect the printer to the network, that is the device your laptop gets its wireless signal from, most likely your ADSL router. You can do this via cable from the printer to the router, and from there set the IP address for the printer. You can then choose whether to keep the printer connected to the router via cable or go completely wireless on most printer setups, though not all of them. Get the laptop to search for the printer from the Printers option in either the Start or Control Panel and it should find it. You can then print from any machine to the printer as long as the router is on, if the printer cant be found just input the IP address to the Printer set up options. ,

Other answers

Basically, it's telling you to plug in your printer to the wireless router (Via USB usually). The printer and the router should detect each other, so then you go into your laptop and go Start > Device and Printers > Add a printer > Wireless Printer. It should detect it, and work.
