Is it same between laser jet printer and laser printer?

My HP color laser jet 1600 printer won't install on my new computer?

• I just bought anew computer with windows 7 professional OS (64 bit). My printer is an HP color laser jet 1600. I went to the HP site and downloaded the appropriate driver for this printer (the win 7 64 bit driver), but when it gets to the step of the installation where I am supposed to connect the usb cable to the computer, it just sits there and displays the message that it's waiting for me to connect the computer to the printer. Clearly the driver and or the computer can't see the printer. I've gone to the HP forums and posted with this issue but have gotten no answers and can't find any help. I tried the hp diagnostics programs, but one wants my printer to be part of a network (it's not, it's just connected via the usb cable). The other says that I have no printer connected when I run it. The printer and usb cable work fine on my old computer, and the usb ports on the new computer work fine with other devices and drivers.

  Make sure your plugging it directly into the computer and not a usb hub. I had this problem and had to tplug it directly into the computer. Also turn your computer off and on with the usb already plugged in. If you have a lot of things that you need plugged into your computer, you would have had to have brought a usb hub that usually has about 5 slots for you to plug in printers, mouse, camera,ETC. Most people have them they plug right into the computer. If your doing an initial install dont plug the printer into this device plug it into the computers owns usb port.
