What's wrong with my printers?

How does color Laser Printers run out of ink and whats its average maintenance cost?

  • I'm planning to buy a new Laser Color Printer. I'm worried if its maintenance costs go beyond my budget.

  • Answer:

Depends on the printer. My Lexmark is around .09 a page for color. My Toshiba is .05. Check the price of toner and the life of the drums, fuser and other "disposables" - those can be hidden costs. A home office / personal use $900 color laser printer can cost $400 for a full set of toner - and $500 for drums, fuser, etc at 50,000 copies. Some are more, some are less. Often you're better off purchasing a $500 color laser printer, buying toner as needed, and dumping it when it's time for the drums, etc.

With a laser you have to take into account the cost of the cartridge and the page yield to get the cost per page. It can vary widely. Here is an article which discusses different printers http://ccs-digital.com/Best-printer-deals.asp

they are very expensive to run probably 40c a page for full color printing if you buy genuine toner, you don't get many color pages out of a refill
