Help with connecting to wi-fi?

Need help connecting my HP Deskjet to my wifi?

  • I have a Netgear router that I got probably a couple years ago. I hooked it up and I know for sure that I did something wrong because I never set up a name for it or a password. I just always had it as an unsecure network, but that was fine with me because I know my neighbors could never reach my wifi. Now last night I went and got an HP Deskjet 3051A 3 in one printer. And now I cannot get it connected to my wifi. I went to the address on internet explorer (192.034 blah blah) to configure my settings and it downloaded a firmware update but it still isn't connecting to my printer! It said that my SSID may not be the same in the printer settings as it is on the netgear settings. I couldn't figure out how to find my SSID on my printer settings. Do you think if I used my netgear disc and re-installed that junk again it might work properly? This is getting so frustrating!

  • Answer:

HP Deskjet 3051A 3 in one printer needs a SECURE network connection. Security is more often found even in printers nowadays. If you have a unsecured network, you wont be able to get this thing work for the fact that your neighbors might be able to access it and print lots of stuffs without you knowing it. Secure a password using the router (normally you can go to address 192.168.0.1) and then enter admin as a user name. Set your SSID here as well as in the printer. I am sure you can find this is every manual of a wireless printer. Good luck.
