if you know of a good printer preferably one that does not rip you off, by reporting empty ink cartridges even when they are full but just have not been used for a little while. please tell me the make and model of a good one.

Answer:
Epson wins for best price/feature comparison, best warranty and lowest cost of ink. They will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one at their expense should you need it. You can get ink for under 50 cents a cartridge. You pay under 2.50 for reusable cartridges and then get $2 back for the empties. Or you can buy refillables (which is what Im using now) and refill yourself for pennies. The info on the Epson deals is updated constantly at http://ccs-digital.com/Best-printer-deals.asp

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 300, I have been using it for about eight years now and the only time that it let me down is when I got the message that the ink spillage tray was full and the machine needs servicing, I looked on the internet and found that this was a time loaded thing and I found out to start the clock from the start, that was three years ago and I have had no problem since, I have always used compatible inks to make it cheaper and I can buy a set of the six for about £8 but I have had sets five sets for as little as £25, one set of the genuine Epson inks costs about £77, I do quite a lot of photo printing and have found no difference between genuine and compatible inks but I have been careful to sample one set from a supplier to check the quality before I continue to use that supplier, of course, I don`t know how the latest machines are but my older one is extremely good although it is not fast, I also use a device that resets the chip in each of the cartridges so that all of the ink gets used when the warning comes telling me that I need to replace them.

Canon: Pretty good on ink and a vast range of models to choose from. I have the Pixmar MG 6150 , duplex printing and lots of bells and whistles. But it depends how much you want to spend and what your needs are. I have had canon printers before 20 years ago, but also epson and lexmark. I quite like the Epson but the canon is better at the moment. http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Inkjet/PIXMA_MG6150/index.aspx?specs=1

I have a kodak all in one cost a fortune. Advertised to be cheapest on ink - not! Dont see anything special in it very noisy as well. Had an epsom before and was better than the kodak and easier to use.Might go back to epsom.

I use a Lexmark X5150 3-in-one for scanning and colour work, and a Lexmark ES250dn laser for documents. Never had a problem with either of them.
