How to set up a wireless printer?

How do I set up my wireless HP printer in my dorm?

  • I bought a new HP Deskjet 3050A All-in-One Printer (J611g), and I want to configure it with the campus wireless network (let's call the SSID "UNIVERSITY"). My Macbook can connect to the wifi just fine (there is no password, but we have to register our devices (both mobile devices and computers) using our student IDs). The printer says it's connected, but can't connect to the internet. The report it prints out says that the SSID I have selected ("UNIVERSITY") has more than one access point/wireless router. I do not have access to the physical router (obviously), so can someone tell me how to set up my wireless printer using wifi? I found a temporary solution which is to print wirelessly using a peer-to-peer network, but this prevents me from browsing the internet while printing because I need to switch to the P2P network to print.

Good question, but a hard one to answer. I do not know how the network at your university is set up and so I cannot give you an accurate answer. My best advice would be to talk to someone of authority on campus and have them direct you to someone who can help you on campus. Such as a tech person or network administrator. Best of luck to you!
