Why is my printer not using all it's ink?

Question about using different manufacturers ink in printer?

  • Hi,this may seem a silly question..I recently purchased a 4 color ink refill system for my new HP printer and was wondering if it is safe to use other manufacturers bottled inks in my HP such as epson, canon etc?I thought ink was ink, would it do any damage to the printer?any info would be appreciated....thanks!!

  • Answer:

So your no longer using the cartridges and are filling ink wells in the feeder above? Black is black regardless of who makes it, the other three colours are blended by the printer to produce the full spectrum. You will get different shades to what you see in print preview. It will not damage the printer, but to get back to original HP print what you see, the other branded ink would have to be completely flushed through the printer. However in opting for an external filling system you are obviously planning to print a lot, so your main concern is the quality of print rather than harming the printer.

It won't do any damage, however, strange as it may seem, you might get varying color results from other inks. But it will not damage anything. Inks are water soluable made from vegetable and other plant colors. Once your printing starts to deteriorate however, you will need to buy fresh cartrdges. Generally, they can be refilled three times without degragation.

I always thought that you shouldnt use other manufacturers supplies - my husband (died now) told me never to use other refils. I did and I had ink colour changes - though I have also taken notice of your other interesting answers. Thank you.

No. Ink is formulated to work with certain printers. Epson ink is not HP ink. As a matter of fact, using HP photo paper in an Epson printer will give poor results because the coating is formulated for HP ink and not Epson ink.

I bought refill ink for my HP printer & it just doesn't come out right. I suggest you keep to HP products, but it may be differnet for other manufacturers.
