Why can't I load paper in HP printer?

My HP photosmart printer says 'load paper' despite having paper. Why? I checked for jam. None seen.?

  • The printer is trying to print; but it is unable to take the paper forward from the paper tray. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Remove the paper tray completely, and examine the paper recognition switch. There is a pressure switch that is depressed when paper is inserted into the machine. If it is broken, or there is a small piece of paper or debris blocking it, that may be your issue. On a side note, I've found earrings, pencils, coins, paperclips and more inside printers that cause loading malfunctions. Do your best to examine the machine as thoroughly as possible. end of line

Other answers

take off the back and double check that it isn't a paper jam. Then pull out all the paper (sometimes if its pushed too far in it will pop up with an error message. If neither of these work then check the screen of the printer (if it has one) to see if it has listed any instructions or if it is asking for you to click OK, If this still does not work than it might be low on paper to the point where it cannot tell there is any paper in it (so just add a few more sheets of paper)

Try pushing the paper further in ,it's possible it's not far enough in for the mechanism to draw it into the machine.

STEVEN

turn it off for 2 minutes, then try again
