How do i add my home printer to my laptop?

I added a local printer and then it asks to choose a printer port , i have no idea what that is . The home printer that i have is called MX310 it scans , prints , and fax. I am trying to add this printer but have no idea how . Someonee pleaseee help mee !!!!

You will have two connections to make. The first is to connect the usb cord that runs from you printer and connect it to a usb port that is built in to your computer. You may have three or four usb ports. Connect to one of them. Secondly, plug the printers electrical cord into a wall socket. Next press the printers on buton. Now, start your computer and allow the computer to receive your printers information. This will take a few minutes, and you will receive a message on your screen when the device is ready to use. And that is about it.
