How do i connect my laptop to my printer?

  • in our house we have a printer that is connected by usb to our main computer. every time i want to print something from my laptop i have to put it on a usb and print it from our main pc. there has to be a easier way. it'll b really obvious but right now i have nooo idea. it would also be great to know if i can set up a file sharing type thing without having to buy any routers or whatever thanks :) main pc runs windows vista our two netbooks run windows XP printer is hp photosmart C3100 series we have broadband on the pc the printer is shared but i cant add it on my laptop. it comes up with this message... 'windows cannot connect to the printer. either the printer name was typed incorrectly (it wasn't) or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server" well its still plugged in, i can still print from the main pc. do i have to install a certain driver so itll work or what??? pleeeaaassseee help!!!

  • Answer:

Well you have to make the printer in to a network printer, and then the laptops have to find it through your network.

If you don't have an router or anything like that, in that case you CANT share the printer on the network. I don't need to ad anything to that, im sorry but you need a router to share a printer. And you need the laptop connected to the network aswell.
