ONCE AGAIN: How do I get the "PRINT" button back?
-
The "PRINT" button disappeared from my toolbar last week after I accidentally hit a wrong key. I am a novice user. I have no idea what key it was. I asked this question over the weekend and then was away from the computer til today. I only got two answers. One answerer assumed I had XP when in fact I have Vista. The answer was useless. The other answerer told me to just go to "Tools Options," scroll down to "Toolbars," click the "Lexmark" toolbar, and everything will be fine. The answerer then chided me for being angry and impatient with the Yahoo!Answers community. He (I'll call him a he because the stupid Yahoo!Answers format erases all indications of the answerer's identity after 4 days) implied that if perhaps I were a little bit more articulate and intelligent, I would get answers to my questions without difficulty. I resent that attitude. I AM NOT THE ONE WHO IS INARTICULATE AND STUPID HERE! The Yahoo/Answers community is stupid. The people who run Google are stupid. The people who make Windows Vista are stupid. And I don't need to prove any of this because it's a self-evident fact. If you make a system that is rendered useless because a neophyte like me hits a wrong key and then there is nowhere to turn except to the millions of soi-disant "experts" all over the world who are reading this question on this website and not a single one of them can solve the problem, then BY DEFINITION, THAT IS A STUPID STUPID STUPID SYSTEM! Want a specific example? The terms "toolbar" and "taskbar" are often used to refer to two different things, but quite often they are also used to refer to the same thing. That kind of logical sloppiness would be irritating in any field of endeavor, but in computer science, it's inexcusable. Over the past several days I have spent over ten hours clicking on, exploring, and reading about "Toolbar Options," Tools," "Toolbar Help," "Toolbar," "Tool Selection," "Toolbar Issues," "Google Toolbar," "Toolbar Settings," and THERE IS NOT ONE BIT OF INFORMATION ANYWHERE ABOUT HOW TO RESTORE A TOOLBAR "PRINT" BUTTON. THAT IS A BADLY DESIGNED, INARTICULATE, STUPID SYSTEM! To the person who said I should just click on "Tool Options" and scroll down to "Toolbars": THE WORD "TOOLBARS" DOES NOT APPEAR ON A SCROLL UNDER "TOOL OPTIONS." This person also suggested I may have caused the problem by "hitting the hid option." He then neglected to explain what the "hid option" is, but if he's referring to the chevrons at the end of the toolbar that go back and forth when you click on them, that's not it. I'm familiar with how that works. Does anybody else have any idea what went wrong herre and how I can get the "PRINT" button back? I could use some knowledgeable help. This stupid machine is really and truly destroying my life. I live in a small, isolated community, with dial-up internet service, and my friends and neighbors know even less about computers than I do. The stupid machine is an Acer AX1200 with 3GB of memory and a 320 GB hard drive.

Answer:
You are clearly very abusive and I gave you a very detailed answer as did the other person. Who has again answered you here! If you can't do basic things then that's not our problem. How much information do you require from one answer? You seem to think that we should supply with ever last detail. You scream abuse at people as if this is a service you pay for. We do this to try to help. If your not happy about the levels of skills you get on her then pay someone to come and show you. Then you can rant and feel superior in person! This was what he was actually told. I see no one calling him stupid - do you? In fact I think I think was very polite and even said no offence when trying to explain how difficult it is to work from words and simplfy something down so much that it's not possible to then given the instructions! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnGq4m2SuuSw5Ct8Dw2bbH7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100716221815AAwYjvp&show=7#profile-info-Ipjtna2baa Interesting that you are being told only the same as before here again. Reality check - that's because that is how to do it - duh! And he is a she and I hope you still don't get it as you deserve to have problems with your abuse and attitude. Well done to the poster who said even when things are idiot proof there will always be a better class of idot!

Hint: Calling us "stupid" does not improve your chances of getting a helpful answer. I'm going to guess that the toolbar you're referring to is in your web browser. I'm also going to further assume that you're using Interent Explorer 8. If that's the case, you may have hidden the "Command Bar" and taken out the print icon along with several other icons including home page. If my assumptions are correct, right click an empty area of the toolbar and select "Command Bar" and see if that restores the icon you're looking for. Alternatively, if you have a "Tools" menu, but no print icon, go to Tools->Toolbars->Customize. Check up and down in the current Toolbar Buttons to see if Print is hiding there. If not, you should be able to find it in the left side window, select it and Add it.

Here's your answer. You don't provide enough information to get an accurate answer to your own dilemma. If this machine is ruining your life, then perhaps it's just time to get rid of it. You probably shouldn't be using an acer anyway. A "neophyte" like yourself should just get a mac. They keep their systems fairly intact and fool-proof. In the end, you are really just proof of this idea: Make something idiot proof and someone goes and make a better idiot!!
For the Toolbar Right click tools On the far right side Click toolbars Click customize Click the printer icon in left pane Click add Click reset
Richard J
right click on TOOLBAR hover mouse over Customize (another panel pops up) move mouse to Add or Remove Commands...
