HP printer ink --- cheaper option?? refill? help!?
-
I purchased an HP printer 2 weeks ago and I am already on the third black ink cartridge. My mom is a teacher and likes to copy stuff at home. I also go to school online and print out a lot of stuff. I know HP ink costs a lot. I called the company and they 'warned me' about using other brands (on ebay) or refilling a cartridge. Is it really bad to use a cheaper brand on ebay or refilling? If I get the HP xl cartridge, it will cost me $30 and I would probably go through it in two weeks. I had a brother printer (hated it), but the ink was cheap. Please help The printer I have is the HP OfficeJet J6480

I have gone to Walgreen's to get cartridges refilled and they have performed ok - and for half the price of new. By now I am sure your realize that HP is not in the printer business but the ink business. The way you are using ink cartridges in your household, you might consider getting a laser printer. There will be more of an investment for the printer and laser cartridges, but the cartridges will last much longer therefore being more economical in the long run.

I have an HP All-in-one printer and I've never used genuine HP replacements -- I always buy remanufactured ink cartridges. They are much cheaper, and it's been my experience that they work just as well. My only recommendation is that you buy from a reputable online retailer which has a solid return policy.

why doesnt your mom print at the school office or photo copies there? For your ink problem try refilling.

You should figure every page costs you about 10 cents each to print. So put a jar by the printer, and give your mother a big wink and tell her you have to charge her for every page she prints. The biggest problem with other-brand cartridges is some of them are poorly made and they might leak - and if they leak onto the contacts inside the printer it's hard to clean up. If you try to refill a cartridge yourself you might have a leak problem, and in some cartridges HP has a counter chip that calculates how much ink is used and how much is left and simply shuts down the cartridge when it thinks the cartridge should be empty. Some companies that refill the cartridges try to reset the counter chip. To really save money just keep a paper pad and a pencil by the computer and write everything down instead of printing it.
