What is the difference between Black ink and Photo Black ink?

What is the difference between photo ink and regular color ink in inkjet printers?

  • Is there a difference in colors, in finish? If someone could help, I would appreciate it.

  • Answer:

Difference is color only. The most common are photo cyan, photo magenta and photo black. Your regular cyan and magenta can only fire so lightly, if the color required is too light for those colors, your lighter shades may come out "dotted", hence the creation of photo cyan and magenta. The black is lighter as well, but is designed for photo printing because it can be used on finished paper. Regular black cartridges contain pigment-based ink, which does not set well on coated papers. Depending on your make of printer, you may be just as pleased with your photos without the extra inks. The difference between 4 color and 6 color printing in newer HPs, can only be seen under magnification.
