How to print with an ethernet cable?

Print from net work printer without usb or lpt cable only network cable?

  • Hi. I've set up a home network.I've connected a printer using an ethernet cable from the printer. I am able to print out of any Windows based program but unable to print using MS-DOS. I had the same problem in my office but got around it using the "net use" command. I had someone set this up for me and they told me to do the same for my home network. I was told to type in "net use \\computer name\printer name". This isn't working. Any ideas??

  • Answer:

First you need to share the printer on one of the pc's where you can print from windows. If you are only using "home" versions of windows, that may not be possible - I don't have any currently running home os'es so I cannot confirm this statement. However, assuming you are able to share the printer on a pc, you then need to run the "net use" command from MS-DOS as follows: net use lpt1 \\pcname\sharedprintername Hope this helps :)
