Answer:
Yes plug the cat5 rj45 plug in to the router port out and the ethernet side of your printer. Bring up the main menu on the printer find where it says network if you push ok it should take you to more network functions then choose either network wizard or print network settings this will give you the address the router gave the printer you will need this in a sec . Get your cd and make she if it asks you want to install network drivers when it asks you for the name or ip you put in the ip or url that was on the network page that you printed out, it should be something like 192.168.1.102 may not be exact but close. Yes you can. I just checked out the printers spec's at the Dell site and it states that the printer has it's own ethernet port and it can share the scanner, printer and fax functions over the network. Read the manual that came with the printer for the instructions on how to set it up in network mode. Once you have set the printer up on the network you should be able to add it on the laptop via the add new printer wizard. ============= For those who said no. Visit the page below, hover over the features button and click Network Capability. http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/print_3115cn?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz

Yes, you can absolutely do that. You don't need to have your laptop hard-wired into the laptop to be able to print. In order to make it work, you must put the printer "on your home network" -- here's how: Scroll down to the section "Share and Share Alike" http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspx It doesn't matter what kind of printer you have... it only matters if it's hooked up to the network.

From the web page you supplied, it looks like the answer is yes. The key is at the bottom the specs page where it says the printer has both local and remote printer setup utilities. Local means connected to a computer, while remote means the printer is on the network.

you may have to set a static IP on the printer but then if you router has a built in switch (most up to date ones do) you should have no problem connecting using the IP address..
you can is the answer but it would be better to fit a print server in and connect that to the printer
