Fax machine/printer problems?

Officejet 4315 fax setup problems!?!?

• i have an officejet 4315 that isn't faxing. it has worked in the past. the problem is it was always connected to a wall phone jack, now its connected through a phone modem like the phone. im just having problems setting it to be able to fax. PLEASE HELP ME??

When it picks up the phone line, like you picking up the handset and preparing to make a call, it needs to hear a dial tone. If there is no dial tone at that point, it stops. >The fax is connected through a telephone modem. It's just a black box. It's got the phone, the fax, and the cable Internet all connected to it. All it says on the box is its a telephone modem.< Well, that provided no useful information to me! Ok, lets try this troubleshooting step. Plug the telephone into the jack where the fax is now plugged into. Pick up the handset and tell me if there is a dial tone.
