Go to the below link and look for Cleaning Kit and while there check the CISS and Waste Ink Container. Go to http://www.inkproducts.com/ and buy a CISS for your printer. It will save you tons of money, you never change cartridges and never run out of ink [yes, you do have to fill the tanks once in a while] Bulk ink is cheap. The CISS will pay for itself in a month. Don't forget to get a Waste Ink Container, it hooks up to the printer and instead of the unusable ink going to the waste ink pad, it goes to the container which can then be emptied, washed and used over and over. The waste ink pad when full will need to be replaced or the printer will not print. Changing the pad is messy and a PITA. BTW: Windex is used because it will dissolve ink in the nozzles.

To clean the print head cartridges, you need a special alcoholic pad sold in many office supply stores. Gently rub the alcoholic pad on the print cartridges beneath the copper strip then wipe with a clean paper cloth that is non-abrasive and non-static. Office supply stores sell these called "Tech Wipes" "Chem Wipes". Replace in the hopper and run the alignment stages.

http://www.pixalo.com/community/computer-hardware-software-networking-internet/epson-stylus-dx8400-ink-problem-27539.html The above site has some good ideas, including the following link: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml If that doesn't help, I would get some inkjet flush - http://www.inkandstuff.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/241_910/products_id/61311 Soak the cartridges in the flush solution for some hours, hopefully if there is any residue there it will slowly dissolve. I wouldn't bother getting new cartridges - I would go for a continuous ink system or refill your cartridges yourself (I think Epsons need a separate chipping device to reset them - see below) http://www.inksupply.com/chipreset.cfm Hope that helps.
