How do I start the print spooler on my XP?

Spooler Service won't Start?

  • My computers spooler service won't start. When I try reinstall the printer it asks if I would like to restart the service. I click yes and it closes the installation and dosent restart it, this happens every time. I also cant restart it through the command prompt. Niether can i print things. I use Windows Xp Home and a Lexmark All in One X3350. I am hoping this can be fixed without reinstalling the computer.

  • Answer:

A couple things to check. Do you have admin rights on the account you are using? Do you have your Remote Procedure Call(RPC) service disabled? The Print Spooler service depends on it to start. Before you reinstall your whole OS, From a command prompt type sfc /scannow It will start the system file checker and check for corrupt files. You may need your XP disk.
