How can I connect a Vista computer to a printer that has been installed on a computer running XP?
-
We have a home network set up in our house that allows us to print from any computer in the house to the printer upstairs. However, when trying to connect from my computer running Windows Vista, it gives me an error saying "Hp Laser Jet printer does not have the correct printer driver installed." The printer works with all the other computers in the home but they are also all running on windows XP. My computer is the only one running on Windows Vista, could this be a compatibility error or do I need to install a special driver onto the printer that allows my computer running Windows Vista to work?

Answer:
You need to download and install the Vista driver on your computer, my friend. I'm afraid you didn't indicate which specific HP Laserjet printer it is that you have, nor whether your Vista is 32-bit or 64-bit so I can't give you a direct download link for the driver. Enter the model number of your printer in the search box on the following web page, then click on the SEARCH button. Edit: I'm presuming, my friend, that the model number is either the LaserJet P2035 or the LaserJet P2035n. The second link below offers drivers for the P2035 series. (They appear to be the same driver for both models.)

go the HP support website and download the Vista drivers for that printer and install on your Vista computer. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

Install the printer on the computer that needs to be hooked up to the computer that has the printer hooked to it. Before doing the installation, make sure you select NETWORK and not LOCAL printer. A window will pop up and you will be ready to select the Printer you want to install from the list. Personally, I would connect the printer to the Vista and SHARE from that computer. You won't have to go through all the headaches you are experiencing. Just SHARE it and XP will find it right away.

You need to run the Vista installer as if the printer was connected direct. force the install without connecting and then do the network printer connect and it will see the drivers you installed.
