How do I start the print spooler on my XP?

Print spooler failed to start...help..?

  • I tried to install a printer but at the end of the installation, it failed everytime and showed a message: Service Print Spooler fails to start. I can't add a printer either. When I click on "add a printer", it always said "operation couldn't be completed. I tried to start this service but failed. The error message reads: error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. How do I fix it? The OS is Win XP Home, and I am the administrator. I’ve tried this action: right-click "My Computer" and click on "Manage". Click on the + next to "Services and Applications" and then click on "Services". Look for "Print Spooler" and check to see if it is "Started". If not, right-click on it and choose "Start". If it is already started, right-click and click on "Stop" and then right-click on it again and click "Start" but failed… is there anything else I could do? I need to print my homework…

Try this: 1. Go to Start > Run and type in "services.msc" then press Enter or clik OK. 2. In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right 3. Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties". 4. Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service". 5. Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them. 6. Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go. 7. Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately. ok..I got your addition ... The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic. If doesn't work ...well...I don't see what else you can do ...final solution is to save all your work ...and reinstall the OS...
