How do I get my printer to work?

How to get my printer to work on vista?

  • Hi there I'm having some problems. I recently bought a new printer/scanner and I can't seem to get it to work. I know Vista blocks things due to security measures and I figure it did the same thing with my printer. When I connect the USB cord to my computer, the computer beeps reading it's there, but when I try to print something it says that the computer cannot connect to the printer. I figure this, as said previously, is a Vista problem. Has anyone else had an issue like this and have a solution for it? It doesn't say anywhere in the manual how to fix it up. Thank you.

Hi Kits What you need to do is uninstall your printer completely. Delete the icon even in the control panel / printer Now, remove the USB cable from the printer (just disconnect it). Now install your software. i suspect your printer is a HP . Irrelevant..... Just install the software and half-way through, the software will ask you if the computer is online. Now connect it. If it doesn't ask you, just finish the installation. Reboot. Windows will find the new hardware and advise you. No need to re-install the software. Just click on the ballon on the taskbar when windows says it is ready to install , or has found new hardware. Now try printing . it should work.

try going to the website of the people who made your printer, finding your printer model and downloading the drivers for vista, then connecting your printer and trying to print.

Have you installed drivers, and made sure they're working? Make sure you set the printer to default, or select the correct printer in the printer settings, (Control Panel, or Print Preview/Page). I highly doubt the problem is with Vista.... If it annoys you that much, you can turn off the warnings by going to control panel, users, and disable UAC, (User Account Control).

Did your manual tell you to install the software before plugging the printer in? Is that how you installed it? Is the printer compatible with your version of Vista?
