Can I remove color ink cartridge from my printer?

I have a HP PSC 950 all-in-one printer. The color ink cartridge was out quite a long time ago and I have been using black ink cartridge since then. Today I replaced my black ink cartridge with a new one but the printer displayed an error message "Incorrect color cartridge installed." I tried to fix it by cleaning the color cartridge contact but it didn't work. Does anyone know how to resolve that problem? If not, is there any way I can remove color ink cartridge and use only black cartridge?

This is actually a hardware error. I had the exact same printer and this exact same thing happened to me a year ago. And after contacting manufacturers, troubleshooting, and waisting my time I found out that it is a mailfunction in the hardware and the device is unable to allign for printing, all of the other devices work fine in the all-in-one, but the printer! can you believe that. Anyway, cost more to replace the harware chip inside than to just buy a replacement. In fact I also got $30 from local repair shop for the broken device to use for spare parts.
