Printer cannot communicate with computer?

I have a gateway GT4010 with windows xp media center edition.My printer is a Lexmark X73 all in one . I've been to the lexmark site and downloaded the driver for xp operating system. Everytime i install the drivers my printer says it cannot communicate with computer. I have gotten the scanner to work, just cant get it to print. Anyone have this problem and if so any suggestions?

How does your printer tell you it can't communicate with your computer (by the LCD on the printer)? Assuming the USB cable is attached, First try disconnecting the USB cable then reattaching. Windows might see the printer and reset the printer device interface. Next, check to see if your computer sees the printer: 1) select "Start", then select Printer and Faxes menu choice. 2) Your X73 should be shown as an Icon. 3) If it is present, there should be a black check mark next to it to indicates that it is your default printer. 4) If it isn't your default printer, then right click the printer icon and on the drop down menu select "Set as Default Printer", click OK, then restart the computer. I hope this helps. Note: It is very important that you do not connect your printer before you install the printer drivers. Install the drivers, then connect the printer once the install process tell you to.

had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and this is what i did and for some reason i have to do it everytime i use my printer now go to -start right click on my computer>manage>a screen will come up go to services on that look for "print spooler"right click on that then click the tab that says "dependencies" on that tab look at the services that r listed make sure that those services r started then go back to print spooler and start that.As soon as print spooler has started your printer should work.

Uninstall all the printer drivers and reboot the computer, power the printer on and you should receive a "add new hardware" box. Disregard the message and run the new driver that you downloaded by double clicking the exe file. Tony Nguyen www.connectionzpcrepair.com

Re install hrd and sft ware for printer.

scanner works, printer does not... hmm. Call the lexmark 800 number to talk to a tech. They will guide u. Sounds like a setup issue if you have already installed the correct drivers.
